James Franco has come on board to direct and produce William Gay\u2019s \u201cThe Long Home,\u201d a coming-of-age story set in rural Tennessee in the 1940s.<\/p>\n
Franco and Vince Jolivette will produce through their Rabbit Bandini Productions.<\/p>\n
The story centers on a young and headstrong Tennessee carpenter who lost his father years before to a human evil and is forced to make difficult moral choices to face up to that evil. \u201cThe Long Home\u201d was Gay\u2019s debut novel and won the 1999 James A. Michener Memorial Prize.<\/p>\n
Franco is currently producing, directing and starring in \u201cIn Dubious Battle,\u201d based on John Steinbeck\u2019s 1936 novel about labor conflict. The cast includes Franco, Selena Gomez, Vincent D\u2019Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston, Nat Wolff, John Savage and Sam Shepard.<\/p>\n
Franco has also directed two adaptions of William Faulkner novels set in the rural South through Rabbit Bandini \u2014 2014\u2019s \u201cThe Sound and the Fury,\u201d which played at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, and 2013\u2019s \u201cAs I Lay Dying.\u201d<\/p>\n
He was last seen in Sony\u2019s \u201cThe Interview,\u201d which he exec produced.<\/p>\n
