It’s time to celebrate! The nominations for the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards were revealed on Monday, December 11, and the stars could not be more exited for the honors
James Franco, Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for The Disaster Artist
“Thank you to the HFPA, who have been supportive of my work since I played James Dean 16 years ago. I am grateful that they have recognized our film The Disaster Artist for Best Comedy, and for nominating me as an actor,” Franco said in a statement. “This movie could only have happened because I was supported by my family and friends. I acted opposite my brother, Dave, and it was produced by my friend of 20 years, Seth Rogen, and his company Point Grey. From the incredible writers, Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber, to the amazing cast, and our regular crew, this movie was blessed and a gift to be a part of. I’m sure the real Tommy Weiseau is pretty happy right now too.”Rogen added: “We are thrilled and honored to be nominated. We want to thank the HFPA for giving us a reason to bust out our finest tuxedos and footballs.”

SAN SEBASTIAN — Having placed second in Toronto’s People’s Choice Awards, James Franco scored his first big outright win as a director, his “The Disaster Artist” scooping Saturday night the 65th San Sebastián Festival’s Golden Shell, the top plaudit at the highest-profile film event in the Spanish-speaking world.
“This was a family affair, my brother, my sister, my old friend Seth Rogen,” Franco said, accepting the award on stage at San Sebastián.
He added, thanking Warner Bros,: “It’s a very simple film about a crazy man but he had big dreams and it’s better than not having dreams. I hope that in these crazy times this brings a little light and inspiration.”
Described by Variety as “the comedy sensation of SXSW,” James Franco’s uproarious “making-of” satire of 2003’s “The Room,” Tommy Wiseau’s best worst movie of this century, “The Disaster Artist” had already won the Spanish critics’ Feroz Zinemaldia Prize, and was one of the two best-ranked titles on a reviewers’ poll run by El Diario Vasco, a local newspaper.

James Franco’s comedy “The Disaster Artist” has nabbed a distributor and an awards-seasons release date.
A24 is partnered with New Line Cinema on the movie, which will hit theaters on Dec. 1 for exclusive engagements in the U.S., followed by a nationwide release on Dec. 8. New Line parent Warner Bros. Pictures will oversee the international distribution, with release dates to be determined.
“Disaster Artist” screened in March as a work in progress at South by Southwest, where it received a standing ovation. Critics were impressed with Franco’s performance as Tommy Wiseau in the film about the making of Wiseau’s so-bad-that-it’s-good film “The Room.”
Variety‘s Peter Debruge wrote in his review: “Like such kindred spirits in quantity over quality as Tyler Perry and Joe Swanberg, James Franco has made a crapload of movies. Sooner or later, he was bound to deliver a good one. But who would have thought his adaptation of Greg Sestero’s ‘The Disaster Artist,’ an outrageous blow-by-blow account of the actor-turned-author’s friendship with the aggressively untalented and infinitely enigmatic creator of one of the worst movies of this century — ‘The Room’ writer-director-star Tommy Wiseau — would turn out to be the best and most professional entry on his own résumé?”

New Line Cinema has revealed an image from this year’s upcoming The Disaster Artist, an adaptation of the novel of the same name detailing the troubled production of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, which often gets labelled as the worst movie ever made. The image gives us a first look at James Franco as the titular disaster artist Wiseau, along with his brother Dave Franco, who is playing Greg Sestero, a real-life friend of Wiseau who played Mark in The Room.
The Disaster Artist is set to have its world premiere at the SXSW film festival next month. The star-studded cast of the film also includes Seth Rogen (The Night Before), Zac Efron (Neighbors), Kate Upton (The Other Woman), Ari Graynor (The Sopranos), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Andrew Santino (Sin City Saints), Hannibal Buress (Neighbors), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2), and a cameo from Tommy Wiseau himself.
